Each year, approximately two million nursing home residents are the victims of abuse or negligence. Social Security Disability is a benefit provided to disabled workers through the Social Security Administration. For purposes of Social Security Disability benefits, a very specific definition of “disabled” is used. To qualify, a person must be unable to perform “substantial gainful activity” because of a physical or mental impairment that is expected to last a minimum of 12 months or will result in death within a year.
